Equine Medicine & Surgery
General Equine Care
General, preventive, and wellness care can help your horse live a longer, healthier life. While most of our general care services occur through our Equine Field service at your barn, we can peform many of the same services if you bring your horse in to our hospital.
Wellness Exams
For optimum health and wellness, your horse should have a veterinary examination at least annually. For many horses, more frequent visits may be appropriate. By evaluating factors such as age, breed, health and environment, we can discuss with you the recommended frequency of visits based on your horse's individual needs.
Preventive Health Care
- Vaccinations:
Regular vaccinations prevent disease from harmful viruses and other pathogens to help keep your horse, as well as other horses, safe.
- Deworming:
We can work with you to create targeted deworming programs tailored to each individual horse.
- Dentistry:
We can perform dental exams, floating (filing down rough edges of uneven teeth), and tooth extractions.
Diet & Nutrition Consultation
In conjunction with the Department of Animal Sciences' Equine Program and Purina we are able to provide equine nutrition information and support. The goal is to help our clients and veterinary students with questions about their horse's diets.
Nutrition is vital to all horses whether they are recovering from serious illness or they are healthy performance horses. Our nutrition consultation group includes Dr. Gabriel Landolt, Equine Internal Medicine veterinarian, Dr. Tanja Hess, equine nutritionist, Taylor Moss, equine representative for Purina, and Krista Dickinson, Equine Internal Medicine/Critical Care nurse.
If you have a nutrition question or would like more details about your horse's feed plan, call the equine nutrition information phone line Monday-Friday at (970) 297-5023. Please leave a message with your name and best contact number or email and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
