Equine Medicine & Surgery Service
What is Equine Medicine & Surgery?
Our state-of-art facility and professional faculty and staff allow us to examine, diagnose, and treat a wide array of equine diseases.
Referrals are not necessary for us to evaluate your horse. We do serve as a referral center for veterinarians in Colorado and the surrounding states for complex medical, surgical, and lameness problems in horses.
Services Offered by Equine Medicine & Surgery
- General Care: This includes routine vaccinations, preventive health care, and nutrition support.
- Emergency/Urgent Care: We are available 24/7 for your horse's emergency and urgent health care needs. We specialize in the treatment of colic (medical or surgical), lacerations, and joint infections.
- Internal Medicine: We evaluate all types of medical problems in the horse. We specialize in dystocia, sick foals, exercise intolerance, neurological problems, geriatrics, diarrhea, chronic abdominal pain, chronic cough, upper airway disease, and infectious diseases.
- Surgery & Lameness: Our facilities include a covered area for lameness exams, and we have the capabilities to perform surgeries for many conditions. Specialties include arthroscopy/endoscopy, laparoscopy, fracture repair, and upper airway surgery. Specialty lameness treatments include extracorporeal shockwave therapy for tendon, ligament, joint capsule, and muscle pain; IRAP therapy for joint disease; stem cell therapy for treating tendon, ligament, and joint injuries; and platelet rich plasma therapy for tendon and ligament injuries.
- Specialty Services: We collaborate with specialty areas of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital to provide directed care for horses in Cardiology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, and complementary medicine (acupuncture and chiropractic).
If you need service on location at your barn, our Equine Field Service can assist you.
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost of your pet's appointment can vary greatly, depending on the severity of illness and type of treatment. Since every patient is unique, it's best to speak with your veterinarian about treatment options and costs. You'll always be provided a fee estimate at your appointment. View the hospital's Financial Information page for general payment information.
