Critical Care Unit

Our Critical Care Unit provides around-the-clock care for especially ill or significantly injured animals, or those requiring special postoperative care. Our Critical Care Unit team consists of highly-trained veterinarians and veterinary nurses - many board certified in veterinary emergency and critical care. Additionally, fourth-year veterinary students gain valuable experience under our close guidance.

With our team-centered approach, you can be sure your pet will benefit from many eyes and ears with a great amount of collective knowledge and expertise, all dedicated to providing the best care possible for your animal. We collaborate with all other hospital services to create and carry out optimal treatment plans for each animal. We customize our care to meet individual patients' needs (e.g., comfort management, hand feeding, customized bedding, and one-on-one attention when necessary).

Even though many of our cases are serious and require an overnight or extended stay, you can feel confident that a trained staff member will be on hand 24/7 to monitor and care for your pet. Our exceptional and compassionate nursing staff truly sets us apart. We will take care of your pet just like we would take care of our own.

How Can I Recieve Updates About My Pet in Critical Care?

Our critical care patients generally come to us by admission through other sections of the hospital (e.g., Internal Medicine, Oncology, Soft-Tissue Surgery, and Neurology). Communication about the status and treatment of your pet will come through your primary service veterinarian, not the critical care staff.

You are welcome to visit your pet during their stay with Critical Care according to our Visit Guidelines.
