What is Ophthalmology?

Our veterinary ophthalmologists specialize in vision care and the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the eye. Our service is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases in all types of animals, including dogs, cats, horses, birds, livestock, and exotic species.

What Can We Treat?

We see patients for the diagnosis and treatment of ocular abnormalities ranging from cancer to infection to vision issues. We offer state-of-the-art ocular procedures including:

  • Ultrasonic cataract surgery (phacoemulsification) with lens implantation
  • Laser glaucoma therapy
  • Ocular ultrasound
  • Electroretinography for the diagnosis of various retinal diseases
  • Eyelid and corneal reconstructive surgery
  • Ocular ultrasonic biomicroscopy, used to aid in the diagnosis of glaucoma and other intraocular abnormalities

When Does My Pet Need an Eye Evaluation?

Although eye conditions can manifest in many ways, the following are some common indications that your pet needs an eye evaluation:

  • Eyes appear red or blood shot
  • Eyes appear cloudy
  • Increased discharge or tearing from the eyes
  • Holding the eye(s) closed
  • Pawing at the eyes
